5 Types of Clients Hair Stylists Love

Studio 86 shares their top 5 favourite types of hair salon clients.

At Studio 86, we love our clients. They help us keep our doors open and doing what makes us happy. That being said, there are certain types of clients that are way more awesome than others… are you one of them? Find out for yourself! Here are five types of clients our hair stylists love:

1.) Clients who respect the time it takes to create great hair styles. Probably at the top of the list of the type of clients hairstylists love are the ones that respects the time it takes to create great hair styles. That’s not to say that clients should expect to be in the chair forever, but more along the lines of being on time for appointments.

Being on time for an appointment is the best way to get the results you want because then you get to take full advantage of the time the stylist has set aside for you, and you’re not affecting the next client’s appointment. If you’re an hour late, don’t expect to be able to get the original service you had hoped for… doing hair well takes a specific amount of time and no one wants a rush job!

Pro tip: if you know you’re going to be more than 20 minutes late, just reschedule the appointment.

2.) Clients who can resist the urge to cut their own bangs after a few cocktails. Well, you don’t necessarily have to be tipsy to cut your own bangs, but it does happen to the best of us. More often than not, it happens when you’re getting ready to go out on the town and you’re having a hard time seeing through your fringe. Cutting your own bangs can lead to a choppy mess and you’ll end up going to your stylist to fix it anyway, or worse, you’ll butcher your bangs beyond repair and have to suffer through an awkward growing out phase.

Pro tip: Most salons offer free bang trims anytime! When you get the urge, try to hold off until you can make it to your salon, or better yet, plan ahead so you’re never blinded by the fringe.

3.) Clients who understand that some looks take a few appointments to execute perfectly. If you want to change your hair colour from black to blonde, or relax your hair and try a new colour too, having patience is going to be your key to success. These kind of transitions must be completed over time to preserve the condition of your hair. Putting your hair through too many chemical processes at once can lead to breakage… and worse. Trust your stylist’s knowledge to get you where you want to be and keep your hair looking as gorgeous and healthy as possible throughout the process.

Pro tip: Don’t try this at home – if you want to try a new hairstyle that requires more than one process, leave it to the pros. They have tricks that prevent your hair from falling out or breaking off, which is essential if you want to be able to enjoy your new look!

4.) Clients who know that a trim every three months is absolutely necessary. People who are growing their hair out and trying to do it as fast as possible often protest when a hair stylist suggests they should get regular trims. It may sound counterproductive but it actually helps your hair grow longer and stronger faster. While nothing can make your grow faster than its normal rate, extensive breakage from not taking care of your ends or trimming split ones regularly can make it seem like your hair just won’t grow longer at all. This is an illusion because of course your hair is still growing, it’s just getting shorter at the same time due to breakage.

Pro tip: In addition to regular trims, regular conditioning treatments will help your hair stay long and strong too.

5.) Clients who maintain their end of the bargain. Healthy, beautiful hair doesn’t just happen in the salon. Glossy and luscious locks are a group effort that you must also be part of. Your salon can only give your hair the pampering it needs when you come in, so it’s your duty to keep up the maintenance at home. That means buying salon-quality products – not just any drug store variety of shampoo, conditioner and styling products. It also involves sticking to your own routine of deep conditioning at home.

Pro tip: if you don’t know which products will make your hair type and colour look its best at all times, ask your stylist for a recommendation.

Do you fall into any of these categories of our favourite hair salon clients? We hope so! See you soon…
